Attempting to add SimpliSafe indoor camera - requires 2.4 GHz networks

Just purchased SimpliSafe for my home and am attempting to add a camera (also inside).  Does not work because it requires a 2.4 GHz network.

I have Xfinity for internet and they suggested I contact both Motorola (Wifi modem) and also Netgear (Router).  When I called Motorola, they said it's something that only Netgear can address.

I'm definitely in over my pay grade here.  Doing my best to call things what they should be called.  Below is a screen shot of the bottom of the Netgear10 router.

Amazed that you folks exist!!

       "attempting" _how_, exactly?

    > [...] Does not work [...]

Which kind of "Does not work" is this?

What leads you to believe that your WNDR3400v2 lacks "a 2.4 GHz
    network"?

"Does not work" is not a useful problem description.  It does not
say what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As
usual, showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results
(error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
    descriptions or interpretations.

Some gizmos like this, which use some app or other to do the
configuration, require the device with the app to use the 2.4GHz radio,
too.  If you connect the app device to the router using the SSID for the
2.4GHz radio on the WNDR3400v2, then you might have more success
    (whatever you're actually doing).

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for "Basic
    Wireless Settings".

Note: These settings apply separately to the 2.4 GHz b/g/n and
                5 GHz a/n bands.

    > [...] Motorola (Wifi modem) [...]

What's a "Wifi modem"?  Has it a model number?  (Is it really a
simple "modem", or a gateway (modem+router), or what?)  A simple modem
has nothing to do directly with wireless anything; that's the router's
    job.

  • So, the method I was using to try to add an (indoor) camera to my SimpliSafe home security system was the app on my iPhone.  By the way, the SimpliSafe home security system is up and running great.  No issues with that.

When I navigate on the SimpliSafe app and attempt to add the camera, it comes up with an error message that says a 2.4 MGhz network is required.

A friend mentioned to me, after she saw the picture of my Netgear device, that I have a dual modem so it should work for both 2.4 Ghz and 5.1 Ghz.

Hope this is more succinct about the problem statement.

"the app" is not a very detailed description of anything.

And you should have one.  Are you using it?

Dual-band _router_.  Your "Motorola (Wifi modem)" remains a mystery.
But, yes, your WNDR3400v2 is a dual-band router, so it should allow you
to connect to it using either radio band.

         Still true.

Unless you disabled it, your WNDR3400v2 should be offering service on
the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band.  Typically these two services would
      have different SSIDs.

      > [...] Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "Basic Wireless Settings".

Did you?  Did you see the two (different?) SSIDs when you looked at
the router's management web site?  Have you tried telling the device on
which you're running "the app" ("my iPhone") to use the SSID for the
2.4GHz radio?  If both radios are configured to use the same SSID, then
you'd need to change at least one of them, so that you can choose the
      desired band on your device.

Typically, this must-use-same-band annoyance affects only the initial
configuration of the gizmo.  Once you get the thing configured, you
should be able to tell your "my iPhone" to go back to using the 5GHz
SSID, and all should still work.

      Hi susan_elaine,

      Good day!

      Welcome to NETGEAR Community!

First of all, we do apologize for the inconvenience of not getting back to you immediately due to the backlog in the system. Do you still the issue? When you add the camera using the app, do you see your WiFi network on the list?

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you need further assistance.

      Regards,
