Back haul over POE

In setting up the main router and the satellite, the OOTB configuration suggests to use the wireless capacility of the two APs to create the backhaul, however, there is an option to use ethernet connections to create the backhaul. If you have older Netgear POE adapters...my question:

IN ROOM ONE you have Router and POE adapter, (POE is 600mbs TPlink from 2-3 years ago)

IN ROOM TWO you have Satellite and POE adapter,

By connecting the POEs to the Orbi for the wired backhaul will this work? or is it better to use the wireless backhaul?

Thanks,

yb

  • You're talking about using 2x POE adapters/injectors to power the orbi so you don't have to plug the orbi into a wall outlet?
Only problem I've see with this isn't the data transfer issue but the POE injectors/adapters supplying enough power to run the orbi.

Sorry, I should have been more clear, I would use the ethernet POE devices to connect the two Orbi's as if they were next to each other and patch together with ethernet. I would still power the Orbi with proper power supply etc.

I was just wondering if the wired backhaul was a better config than using wireless.

Do you mean using a powerline device?

Not sure what the benefit of ethernet over powerline if you're going to be powering seperate.
