Change IP on Router. Default Gateway address dissappears

I'm wanting to setup this router and a 2nd network on my home system. I am wanting to having this router in my shop so I ran the cable from the house to the shop and now need to set this up.  From my understanding all I need to do is:

1.  Change the Router ID (a.k.a. what it shows for Default Gateway when I do and ipconfing).

2. Disable DHCP Server

3. Change Router name if I want to have it as a seperate network.

I'm having problems with the first step.  After I change the Default Gateway, it doesn't populate that line when I do an ipconfig and I cannot communicate with the router by typing in the new address.  I've tried everything.  I've reset the adapater, I've flushed the network shell, I've rebooted, dosey-doed.....etc.

Any help is appreciated here!

Why?  What, exactly, does "a 2nd network" mean to you?  Is there some
actual problem which you are trying to solve?  Care to share?

Doesn't sound very good to me.  But my understanding of your actual
      goal is negligible.

Not a useful description of anything.  Inventing your own, private
technical terms ("the Router ID") is not conducive to good
communication.  Stick with the language in the User Manual and on the
      management web site.

Think, for a moment, about how little useful information those
(non-)descriptions convey to the non-psychics in your audience.

Perhaps his psychic powers exceed mine.  I don't know what you
      actually want.
