Conncection problems-AC1750 model. Cant figure out how to change connection

Hi, I keep having devices disconnect and have to reboot my router daily. On the nighthawk app I ran a wifi analytics and its running it thru a router in my basement. How can I change that to my main router that is right beside it?

  • What actual setup do you have?

    You have 2x routers?

What routers are these? (hint, ac1750 is a speed, not a model)

    Are they mesh devices?
Are you using separate ssid's for them or did you name them the same?

What modem/gateway are they connected to?

Details are key, you really didn't give us much to go off and a fairly vague description of your problem

  • AC1750 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.

Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Are you saying that you have two routers on your network?

    Bad idea.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit. But that has its own drawbacks:

  • Thanks for you input, I just did a factory reset and started all over. Its now connected to the right thing. I'm not techy at all so sorry I didn't give the right info, didn't know what you  needed. I was just trying to avoid starting all over. I think I'm all good now.
