connecting a D7800 to Huawei HG659.

I recently had the NBN connected and was supplied a Huawei HG659 modem/router by the telco. I need to use this HG659 modem/router because of the voip connection. I want to connect my D7800 so I can use the features of the D7800. The end set would the HG659 as the modem and the D7800 as the DCHP server and wifi router. The problem is it can't be bridged wirelessly as the HG659 looses the voip connection by design.

I have set the HG659 AS 198.168.1.1 and the D7800 as 198.168.1.2. But can't get a connection to the D7800 at 198.168.1.2.

Thanks

Which "the features of the D7800"?

Normally, the D7800 doesn't have one address, it has a LAN address
    and a WAN/Internet address.

       Starting from where?  Doing what?

Cascading multiple routers can cause multiple problems.  If you can't
configure the HG659 as a modem (only), then I'd suggest configuring the
D7800 as a wireless access point (ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Router / AP
Mode).  This will disable some router features, but you may not care:

If you don't already have the appropriate user manual, then visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look for
Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for "Set Up the Modem Router
as a WiFi Access Point Only".

       I don't think so.

DHCP and wireless. I want to use the HG659 as a modem (only) and D7800 to do the rest.
