ERROR 403

What the hell is going on with this model.  I have three customers with the exact same issue.  Netgear needs to get their head out of their a#$.  None of the solutions I have found work other than buying an AC1200 or better.  Is this a new marketing ploy?  Or is netgear going into the paperweight market.

  • What exact issue are you getting? Details are key.

    What firmware is on them?
What gateway/modem are they connected to?

If its for a customer, unless you're on some pretty slow dsl, I wouldn't be recommending the R6080. Its a pretty base model device and not gigabit.

This has nothing to do with network equipment, strictly firmware as error 403 is an error from the web server and is immediate upon hitting the apply button, but since you asked upstream are all Cambium radios.

Setting attempted where fixed IP and DNS servers

Only happens with AC 1000, two have been in service (previously programmed without incident) and one was brand new.  Had customer purchase AC 1200 ….. no problems.

There are numerous posts about this probem, just google ‘AC 1000 error 403’

      Tried latest firmware and downgrades.

None of the posted fixes worked for me

This is the type of thing that made me give up on Linksys years ago.

Anyone that is not in a hurry for a router gets my recommendation for another brand. (hint 4 lettters)

Which model? AC1000, like AC1200, is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.

The R6080 in your footer is pretty well Netgear's bottom of the range router.

Quite what possessed Netgear to release devices with 100 Mbps Ethernet ports in 2017 is beyond me. Gigabit has been LAN standard on most routers for a decade or more. Since then Internet speeds have crept up and 100 Mbps is slower than many ISPs deliver.

Still, the thing should work, albeit slowly.

Top of the line or bottom is not the issue.  Here is the definition of error 403 if you are uncertain:

The HTTP 403 is an HTTP status code meaning access to the requested resource is forbidden. The server understood the request, but will not fulfill it.

With the router being the server.

      Same results with different browsers....

For those of you who have been setting up Netgear remember the good old days before the Wizard, when it only took half the time.

Bye Bye Netgear, no more referals from me.

Check out the solution in the above reply.
