Forgot login and can't restore!

Windows 7 64bit

Netgear WNDR4300SW

Firmware: Unknown

Wired and Wireless connections

So I'm having no real issues with connectivity. All my devices are connecting fine and accessing internet perfectly. My issue is only with loggin in to change router settings. I forgot my login because I hadn't had to change anything since I set it up like a year ago but I needed to get on now. So after a little reasearch I found the only way was to perform a factory reset which I didn't mind doing.

Now here's the problem. I pressed the button and released letting the router reboot and start up completely. Then I went to http://www.routerlogin.net/ and the default ip to start setting it up again. However this is where it gets stuck. I says "Checking internet connection....Please wait.", then shortly after that "Please wait a moment....". And it sits here indefinitely. I've tried logging in before opening the webpage with the default admin/password via the Netgear Genie app but it just hangs there too. If I interrupt the "Please wait a moment..." then the router denies the admin/password defaults.

In short, I just wanna access my settings but a factory reset doesn't seem to help. Are there any other steps I could try besides what's here?

  • Tracert was successful but I ended up calling tech support and I'm picking up a new router on Monday. So I'll be on my phone a lot this weekend haha

  • Disconnect the router from everything except power.  Do the factory reset again.  Then connect a single computer to one of the router's LAN ports.  Point your browser at routerlogin.net and try logging in again.

  • Followed your steps but now I can't even get an Internet connection. All lights are green on the router and pc even says it has Internet connection but not a single page loads.

If you log into the router, does it say there is Internet connectivity?

Try running tracert 8.8.8.8 (traceroute 8.8.8.8 on a Mac).  This should tell you whether you have connectivity to the Internet.  Do a tracert to your DNS server(s), too.
