Thanks all for the replies and suggestions. After some further exploration I learned what the cause was. It seems Netgear thinks it's a good idea to "enable" Arlo for prior customers of their products. I found a way to disenable it and the arlo registration has disappeared. I must say, it seems overly pushy and promotional to do this without an explanation or prior consent of the user. I wasted a lot of time over it as well as concern as to its cause.
