Have I bought the right switch for my needs?

Hello to all in the community.

Don't know if I have came to the right place but here goes...

I have bought the JGS524Ev2 — 24 Port Gigabit Ethernet Smart Managed Plus Switch.

We are a family of six using Laptops, PC's, Mobile's and Game Consoles. The Kids use the Consoles as well as their PC's and Mobile's and my wife and I use the Latop and Pc and Mobile's.

We bought this switch and I'm sorry to say, that it was based primarily on the actual physical size and number of ports to match a Belkin Network  Switch which was there already and has stopped working.

We moved into a new home and the house was wired with RJ45 sockets on the walls in the rooms. A 24 Port Patch Panel and Belkin Network Switch, is in what looks like a home made bracket mounted thing in black paint, screwed on the wall in a cupboard. All was working fine and we were just plugging in with no problems with the PC's and Consoles.

Questions are...

Will this switch be sufficient for our needs?

Can I just plug n play or is there stuff I should set up to make it work properly?

(Make the network as fast as possible and more secure, especially for the kids)

This was a good buy for us in terms of our tight budget and a good price on Amazon.

Good advice welcome...

Thanks,

Ian

Not a very detailed description of that device.  With my weak psychic
powers, and no actual model number, it's tough to guess whether a
JGS524Ev2 would be a suitable replacement.

Not a terrible description of the bracket.  But who cares?

If the old switch was unmanaged, then a managed switch might provide
    capabilities which you don't need.

Here's a radical concept which works for some people:

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.

Alternatively, my search for that model number found what might be an
    appropriate forum for such devices:

You are a complete **bleep**, what an idiot! Carry on with your dull and boring attitude.

Mr I know it all, ha ha knowf**K all haha, did your mother drop you on your head when you were a child? I bet your father was an idiot too!

Yes I will return the Netgear Switch for a refund and buy another brand haha, who would want to be associated with a company that has people like you supporting them!
