Having issues with R6080 internet/wifi connection. Wired connection still works

My AC1000 Dual Band WiFi Router, model R6080 is acting funky. All lights on the router are green except for the internet signal. When I try to connect to my 2.4G WiFi network, my phone will to try to connect to my WiFi network, but then display a "failed to connect to network" message. My phone will then switch to the 5G WiFi signal and say its connected via Nighthawk. The firmware version on my router is v1.0.0.52. My computer is connected to my router through an ethernet cable and I'm able to access the internet.

My modem, CM500V, has a green internet signal, but the ethernet light is a amber/ orange and switches between solid and blinking.

I've tried resetting both my router and modem several times and the issues has not resolved itself with a factory reset. I've also tried a new internet signal through my internet service provider, Xfinity, through their app. My modem has restarted when doing this, but the lack of WiFi issues still remains.

Any help on resolving the issue would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

My router is still showing an amber/ orange light meaning it has a 100Mbps link, right?

Depending on which light we are talking about – there is a row of them on the router – amber certainly signifies 100 Mbps on LAN connections.

But being an basic router, the R6080 doesn't have the same diagnostic indicators as other routers.

    Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

The manual will explain what the LEDs mean.

So, the router is not getting the Internet.

This is probably linked to the router's specifications. The R6080 is pretty well the bottom of the range for Netgear's routers. According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware.

The convention in these things is that the LEDs on LAN ports are also speed indicators. So the amber/ orange you see is a sign of a 100 Mbps link. It would be green if you had 1000 Mbps.

You don't say how fast your Internet service is. You are throwing away anything above 100 Mbps. You need a better router to get a faster connection.,

As to the symptoms you see, you can't just turn the bits on and off at random.

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.

I tried the reset steps you outlined and my 2.4Ghz network still isn't working. The 5G network is working fine. I checked my internet service and it provides up to 100Mbps for download speed, upload speed is 5Mbps.

When my phone and computer connect to the 5G wifi, the internet connection is good. Any thoughts on why the 2.4G network isn't working?

How does "isn't working" manifest itself.

It doesn't show up? You can't connect?

You will not get that speed through this router. It claims to handle 100Mbps, but it isn't likely to get reach that to the usual overheads. More likely to max out at around the mid 90s Mbps.

5 GHz devices will connect to the 5 GHz wifi.

What 2.4 GHz devices are you using?
