The person who worked on my RMA request was very kind and helpful. She even went to bat for me to get the RMA when I declined to agree to tearing down my network to try resetting the defective router to factory defaults. After getting the RMA, I got to thinking about her request so I spent the next few hours unboxing and reinstalling the old router to reset and test it. Before Icould reset it to factory defaults the darned thing came up running like it never had a problem. I let it run the rest of the day. It never faltered.. I tore down again and reinstalled the new router, a wndr4300v2. All devices up and running. I'll keep the wndr3400v3 for backup. Now to cancel the RMA. Thank you all for your help and making this a good experience. -- greg brown

thank you for your resonse. i did indeed register it a day or two after i bought it in march. i had already followed the path you laid out and got a case number. as i recall the response then was call us, but there was no phone number accept for one identified as premium support. am i to call that one though it seems to indicate i must pay for it?
