Installed a new cable modem and now Router R6230 will not transmit internet via Wifi

Hello all -

I bought a new ARRIS S33 modem and activated it. I have internet working via direct ethernet CAT5 cord to my PC, but my R6230 router will not transmit internet now. All of my devices can still connect to it and the green light for "internet" is also solid on the front. I downloaded the nighthawk app and through that it is able to identify my router and also tell me that the firmware is outdated, so I'm wondering if that's causing the issue since I went from a DOCSIS 3.0 to 3.1 modem? However, when I goto routerlogin.net to try and update the firmware I do not get the router login screen and it says I may not be connected to my Router's Wifi network, but I am, just without any internet coming through it.

Does anyone have any advice or know what I should do? i am leaning towards doing the factory reset button on the router, but I wanted to check and see if maybe there's something else to do first?

Any help is much appreciated!

Thanks,

Ryan

  • What you should do is disconnect your pc from the modem.

The S33 has 2x ethernet ports but the vast majority of isp's only support 1 public ip address.

meaning only 1 device can be connected. And if the computer is working, the router won't be.

so disconnect the pc and power off the modem and the router. Leave them off for a couple minutes.

Then power on the modem and give it a couple minutes.

Then power on the router and attempt its internet setup.

don't connect anything other than the router to the s33.

That is the advice you will get from support. It is the usual response when things goes wrong.

In this case, a reset is something you should have done before you even tried to use the router with a new modem.

When you first set up the R6230 it configured itself to work with your old modem and its settings. You now have a new network so you need to reconfigure the old router.

One thing you could try before a reset is to take the R6230 through its Internet setup process.

    Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the section in the manual Specify Your Internet Settings.
