yea is your ring doorbell thing far away from the router? Is it connected to the 5ghz or 2.4 ghz band. I know the 2.4 ghz band reaches farther than the 5ghz. If its far maybe switch to the 2.4ghz band or get an extender to boost the signal.

An extender is probably the better option. A new router isn't likely to have a much better range. Routers are restricted in how much power they can broadcast. Its the law! Newer routers come with various wells and whistles that aren't likely to mean much to an IoT widget.
