model: C6250 AC1600 WiFi cable modem/router can't reset IP from Zurich IP
I am located in Florida using WOW as my internet provider. I have been using this modem/router for over a year. 2 days ago I started getting blocked messages from some websites and a streamming TV channel. When I checked my IP it was listed as being in Zurich. What I have done so far to try and solve the issue: Turned everything off (TV, computer, modem) and turned back on a few minutes later. Released the IP and asked for a new one. Updated the TV channel app (at the suggestion of their tech support) and finally did a hard reset on the modem/router.
I bought into a VPN service to be able to access these blocked sites and the TV channel and it works on the computer, but the actually Roku TV still won't access due to not being connected to the VPN.
I tried downloading a new firmware from the netgear site but it says that the firmware updates are pushed down by my ISP. Well my ISP is showing as being in Zurich and I have no idea who they are.
Questions:
Should I get a new router?
Is there a way to download new firmware?
Is this a virus?
Thank you for your help!

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the Cable Modem products. Most of the people who watch that forum are more likely to have experience with Cable modems and know how to work it better than those of us who follow this router forum. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

No. Cable modems are outside the control of users or modem makers.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.

Pity. There won't be much traffic there, as you may have discovered by now.
Your problem isn't really related to the fine details of your hardware. A router is a router is a router. But I don't want to clutter up this community even more, so I will leave you to the tender mercies of the handful of people who visit that section.
