N300 cable modem router only works with short internet input cable

Modem / router only works with very short 6 ft cable. I bought a new longer cable and it won't work. This setup had been working with about 40 ft of cable and a splitter and a coupler online. Recently stopped working. I connected it directly to the Cable coming from the street and it worked so I thought it must be a problem with the cable or connection between street and modem. But it will only work with a 6 foot cable that is after a splitter ( although the splitter only has the one cable output. I tried using a coupler and added an additional 6 ft cable , didn't work. Also bought a new 50 ft cable. Didn't work. Anybody have this issue before?

do you have a screen snip of the cable connections page?

That shows signal strength. anytime you split the signal or add distance, it decreases the signal the router gets. If you're already boarderline, that extra distance could be dropping the signal to unusable levels

Thanks! I checked the power of the signal via the modem login page and determined the problem was the 2 inline connectors / couplers . I previously swapped a couple of connectors to test, but they turned out to be bad also! So I just bought 2 new ones and now I'm back up and running!

Glad it was an easy fix!

It might not have been that they were bad, more likely that they weren't a decent quality and were dropping the signal to much for the modem.

tough to know for sure without actual numbers off the modem with before/afters of each one.
