Netgear Nighthawk AC1000 USE OF ETHERNET WITHOUT WIFI TURNED ON
I was under the impression I could turn off the Wifi switch on this model router and still be able to use the Ethernet ports. I downloaded the app and installed the router with no problem. However if I turn off the wifi switch, the Ethernet ports no longer work. Is there something else I need to do?

Thats odd. You should be able to connect any ethernet device to the LAN ports and get internet services. Disabling of the WiFi doesn't not effect the wired LAN ports.
Can you disable the wifi radios from the routers web page under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings?
There is no such thing as the Nighthawk AC1000 listed in your subject. (That's a wifi speed indicator.) The only AC1000 in the Netgear range is the R6080, a bottom of the range router with one major issue.(Too downmarket to be a "Nighthawk" device.) The LAN ports are limed to 100 Mbps.
It also lacks such features as an on/off button for the wifi. But, as FURRYe38 says, the on/off state of the wifi will not affect what the LAN ports can do.
So, what is this "wifi switch"? The browser graphical user interface (GUI)?
