Netgear R6350 Firmware Update causing failure
Hi Everyone,
Wonder whether anyone has experience in repairing corrupted firmware. I have 2 nos. R6350 router, one placed in my bedroom as access point but hardwired to the other via home network. Today I received a notification to update the firmware, and very naively I instructed both router to proceed the update, forgetting that when one router reset after update, the other bedroom router will loose the network connection. As it stands I end up having one router updated the firmware, and the other has the firmware corrupted and the LED light keeps blinking.
I then search the support website, download the tftp software and follow the instruction to attempt writing the firmware image onto the router. All my attempts failed. The tftp interface indicates block#0 and then no further response. I waited half an hour and conclude that the firmware img file is not writing into the router. Can anyone give me a hint how to handle this ? It's just funny that a firmware update protocol can paralyse the router so easily and I cannot even reset it to factory default.

If a standard factory reset fails, there is more severe, recovery reset, that you could try:
- Press reset for 30 seconds
- Keep pressing reset while removing power
- Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power
If it works, you may be able to use the usual method to flash the firmware again.
TFTP isn't the easiest operation, so if you are forced to use it try a web search for videos that guide you through the process.
For example:
Different device, but the approach is the same.
The good news is that TFTP has rescued many a dead device.- Bboy2020Aspirant
Hi Kudos,
Thanks for sharing your geek skill, I never knew pressing the reset button longer would generate a different reset trigger. This is useful to know.
I lend assistance from the office IT person, and was informed that the TFTP client programme downloaded from the support website was not working. Instead he use the window prompt command line to 'put' the firmware img onto the router, and now it works fine. Before that one has to enable the TFTP feature in the window environment under the “Program and Features” page of the Control Panel which by default is de-activated.
But thanks for the advice !
