Crikey, you had something older than thew WNDR4500? It dates back to 2013 and the last version (V3 hardware) came out in 2015.
That router, however, also worked with my Linux computer where the newer model I now have does not. I have tried everything suggested to me in the Linux Mint forums, but to no avail.
What do you want the router to do with Linux? It does not care which operating system is talks to, as long as it supports a browser that can get into the graphical user interface .
While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
SMART Wi-Fi, General and Legacy Routers - NETGEAR Communities
You might like to search there for messages related to your router.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
Check for various troubleshooting tips.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
