New Gateway and Access Point
I recently upgraded my gateway to an XB8 from Xfinity and as a result, one of my older laptops will not connect wirelessly. The ethernet works fine. I was told by Xfinity that I could use an old router as an access point in order to connect. The only old router I have is a WNDR3700-100NAS and I'm unsure how to set it up for this function or if it can be.
Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but can anyone help me accomplish this?
Thanks in advance.
they make the nano adapters (a bit shorter range) that don't stick out very far.

Thanks for your help!
What actual wireless card is in the laptop?
Might be worth checking into upgrading the wireless card or even using a USB wireless card

It's an Intel centrino wireless-n 1000. The laptop is an old Lenovo Z570 Ideapad that used to connect by wireless just fine....until I upgraded the gateway. The laptop is old enough that I'm not sure if an internal card replacement is available. I tried to ask Lenovo, but they had no advice.
maybe not something worth it but you can get a usb based one. That'd be a better option than adding a 2nd router that can add interference. Pretty cheap too. You can snag a half decent one from old jeff b for that $10-20
