Nighthawk AX4 RAX40v2 ReadyShare Doesn’t Recognize Hard Drive…..DOES Recognize Thumb Drive
Hi,
I have a new Nighthawk AX4 RAX40 v2 router. I'm running Firmware Version V1.0.2.82_2.0.50.
In the web admin panel - which is not labeled 'Genie'; it's just labled Netgear and it has a ReadySHARE page/tab.
I am plugging a SeaGate 2TB external hard drive into it, and when I hit the refresh button, it's NOT recognizing the drive. :smileysad:
HOWEVER.... if I plug a cheapo thumb drive in the USB 3 port on the back, and click the ReadySHARE refresh link, it DOES recognize the thumb drive.
I KNOW the SeaGate external hard drive works. It's an NTFS format. I had it connected to a SageCom WiFi router. SageCom (actually Spectrum) removed the web admin pannel, so I could NO LONGER manage the drive. :smileysad: They replaced with an app (as if you really need yet another app on your phone/iPad); and just like the Nighthawk app; there's no controls or interface to manage the USB drive.
SoooOOOOooo back to the problem. Is there a size limit on the external drive that can be connected to the back of a Nighthawk AX4 RAX40??? Are there certain "brands" of external hard drives that are or are NOT supported?
H E L P. :::: if I can't get the drive to work, I'll take it back to MicroCenter. The ONLY REASON I bought it was for the USB port.

ReadyShare is picky as to USB drives it accepts.
This list will give you some clues, although it is far from comprehensive:

As you can see, it is also out of date, Last Updated- 04/05/2019, and does not cover the RAX range.
This isn't really the best place to ask about those routers, you might do better here:

I have found that USB drives that are billed to work on one device will work on others.
For example, reading that the R7000P accepts the Seagate USB3.0 8TB Model: SRD0PV1, I installed one on an R7800. Works just fine.
Windows is also a factor in this picture. It might also be worth reading this:
