Pink ring of death

Hello.
Yesterday my orbi rbr50 decided to permanently display the pink ring. It's running firmware 2.7.3.22. it's connected to a Netgear VDSL modem. BT provides the internet.

It has been stable for a couple of years now.
Suddenly the network is up but it says there's no internet connection. Yet the Netgear VDSL modem says there is. When I swap out the VDSL modem for the BT HOME HUB the devices that connect all have internet connection. There is internet to the RBR50. I've reset it but cannot update it further as it won't connect.
Is there anything I can do?
Many thanks

It may help to reboot the whole network in the right order.

Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:

    • Turn off and unplug modem.
    • Turn off router and computers.
    • Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
    • Turn on computers and rest of network.

Which Netgear modern is this? Plain modem (DM200)? Or a modem/router in modem only mode? That can cause grief after power cuts.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

      Hi,

Sorry I was writing this last night on a mobile phone, so lost the will to live tbh. I will look for the modem type when I am back home. It is only a modem not a router/modem. It was to replace the standard BT (British Telecom) router that comes with the broadband normally.

Interesting point about a power cut, I don't think we had one but we were away for a few days and other people in the area had a power cut.

I have not done a total reboot like that but will have a go.

      UPDATE:

So it has decided to work and not work. The Pink ring has gone and it is back to showing no light and the orbi app can connect to the network. I currently get 40MB from BT (rising to 1GB in a month) and over the Orbi network I have traditionally seen 35MB and as I said the network has been rock solid.

However despite showing it is all connected, I now see barely 1MB and no devices on the network can reliably connect to the internet. In fact I am not really sure that it is actually working. I know this is not enough information but is there a diagnostic (I am away from home working right now) I can run to share with the community?

I have double checked the internet and if I use the BT router/modem then I see the 35MB and everything that connects to the router works fine. So it is definitely that master unit. The satellites all connect happily to it and the app shows a happy little network, just no web connection. I have also changed the Ethernet cable.

I have looked in the RBR50 chat group and nothing quite like this. I will try to update firmware if that is needed when I am back.

Thoughts and advice are much appreciated and if nothing else, can I add a newer master router to the network or am I stuck with this gen because of the satellites? (I have 4.)

      Thanks,

      Nicholas
