Possible to set USB storage quirks?

I'm interested in using the R6400v2's "ReadyShare" facility to attach a hard drive that uses an ASMedia ASM1153 chipset for SATA->USB.

Unfortunately, this chipset doesn't work reliably on USB 3.0-capable hardware running Linux 6.1.13 unless the kernel parameter usb_storage.quirks=174c:1153:gu (or the equivalent kernel-module configuration) is set (disabling the USM subsystem and limiting transfer sizes to 240 sectors at a time). I'm concerned that this issue may extend to other hardware and kernel versions as well, hence being concerned about whether the drive will work well when attached to this router.

Is any equivalent configuration available or necessary here?

  • You can't set quirks on the router.

I also recommend you go for a true NAS system instead of trying to make the flaky router work with some random USB drive.

Use the right tool for the right job. Let the router do what it does best... routing and switching. Anything beyond that is an add-on and may or may not work reliably.
