Ok, disconnect the WNR614 from everything, do a factory reset, then connect a PC to the LAN port and proceed to set it up again.
If you're going to use a cable between them then you want a ( AP ) access point. Suggest you return it and by a device with AP mode.

I am using the cable for just to setup the netgear router. At the end I don't want to use cable.
