R6000 router - need to reset often and it defaults to Netgear wifi
I've had my router over 2 years. In the last 6 months or so, I seem to have to reset the router about every 2-3 weeks because it keeps losing my internet connection. When I reset the router, the wifi reverts back to the Netgear wifi name so then I have to change it to my wifi name. I took a screen shot of how to change it to my wifi when I was on a call with tech support about a month ago. I've had to reset it 3 times since then. Why does the router seem to be losing internet so often and why does it keep reverting to Netgear's wifi instead of resetting to my wifi network?
Thanks.

What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that sits between this router and the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.
Apologies for all the questions. But you can help people to help you by providing the information suggested in this forum's header:
Subject (Include model number and brief summary)
Model (Recommended - Helps the community give the best answers)
Body (Include additional detail including model version, firmware, OS and environment where relevant.)They are there for a good reason.

A lost Internet connection is not a cue to reset a router. A better option is work work out why the connection failed and then to fix that.
When I reset the router, the wifi reverts back to the Netgear wifi name so then I have to change it to my wifi name. That's what a reset is supposed to do. It clears out any settings that might be causing problems.
This is why a reset should be a last resort, after you have tried the other possible solutions to problems.

That's what you told it to do. (See above.) You can reduce the hassle by saving your settings before you reset the thing.

The problem there is that restoring settings can bring back the issue that caused you to reset in the first place.
Which is why a better strateg7y is to try to work out what the problem is and to sort that out.
