[R6300] Trying to forward port, that is in use
Hello,
I'm trying to forward some ports on my Netgear R6300 router for my Xbox One as I've been having some issues with getting randomly disconnected from game servers (specifically Black Ops 3 and GTA V), however I find I am not disconnected from Xbox Live. I am following a guide on portforward.com (this one). I've assigned my Xbox One a static IP address, and am currnetly attempting to forward ports for said IP address. I've forwarded ports 53, 80, 88, and 500 so far, in accordance to the guide I'm referencing. I'm trying to forward port 3074 and it states the following:
"The specified port(s) are being used by other configurations. Please check your configurations of USB Readyshare, Remote Management, Port Forwarding, Port Triggering, UPnP Port Mapping table, RIP, and Internet connection type. "
I'm not overly familiar with all this networking stuff, so I'm unsure of what to do in this situation. I checked in the UPnP tab of Advanced Setup and I do see an entry that is active under UDP protocol with internal and external ports labelled as 3074. Looking at the list of devices on my router, it looks like that UPnP entry is referring to my computer. So, this means my computer is using port 3074? Is there anything I can do about this, or will I have to forget about forwarding port 3074 for my Xbox One? All other ports have been successfully forwarded.
If I were to somehow get this port available for my Xbox One, what changes could I expect to see on my PC? What does this port even do? Based on speedguide's entry here, it looks like this port is mainly used for Xbox, but also for Call of Duty World at War in general. If I forwarded this port to my Xbox One, would I encounter issues with playing Call of Duty World at War on my PC?
Sorry to ask so much, but if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it!
Are you running Call of Duty on your computer?
Anyway, I researched this a bit and it looks like Call of Duty defaults to using port 3074, which conflicts with Xbox Live. But according to this Activision support article (link), using port 3075 may work as an alternative.
Try the following steps:
- Temporarily disable UPnP on the R6300. This should clear UPnP forwarding rule for port 3074.
- Set up port forwarding for port 3074 to your Xbox.
- Re-enable UPnP. Your computer may try open port 3074 using UPnP but the router should reject it. Hopefully, your computer will try port 3075.

Thanks for your response!
I am trying to run Call of Duty Black Ops 3 from my Xbox One, but I do also play Black Ops 3 and World at War on my computer. Does this complicate things, or am I fine since Steam seemed to utilize completely different ports than those I'm forwarding?
If I try the steps you've given me, and I begin to encounter issues on my PC, can I simply remove the forward to port 3074 for my Xbox One and it'll likely work again? If not, is there a general process I could follow to reset my PC as UPnP forwarding to 3074? If I do not encounter any issues I'll assume that everything is fine and it's worked.
Thanks for the tip, I'll try this next chance I get!
- If Steam is using different ports then you should be ok.
Yes, you can always remove the port forwarding rule if it causes problems.
