R6300v2 - firmware update + serial number problem

I have an R6300v2 that my ISP provided ~ May 2017.  After recent news of security problems I decided to check it's firmware version an was surprised to find it quite old--V1.0.0.6_10.0.3CP according to the web interface.  If I do a check for new version in the interface I get "no new firmware version available".  However, if I go to the support web site and look I find R6300v2-V1.0.4.18_10.0.84.chk  and R6300v2-V1.0.4.20_10.0.85_beta.chk both available.  I downloaded and unzipped 1.0.4.18 and tried to manually update it but was told that the firmware was incorrect and I should get the correct version.  Is the existing firmware so old I need to do incremental updates?

To top it off, I tried to register the device under my account, and when I input the serial number it gets identified as a WN3100RPv2!  Something definitely seems messed up with this device!

Thanks.

  • Hi Jim6250,

The "CP" suffix at the end of the firmware version indicates that it is a modified firmware from your ISP. We recommend contacting your ISP to check for firmware updates.
