I just purchased a large external HD to connect to my router for sharing files with members of my family and found while the drive is visible it is unusable because the router uses SMBv1, which has been disabled by Microsoft with Windows 10 due to malware/ransomware issues. Routers now need to be able to support SMBv2 or SMBv3 to be able to share files over the network. I confirmed this by temporarily turning SMBv1 back on and I could access the drive and create folders and such with no problem. But leaving that on is NOT an option I will use due to the threats out there that use the security issues that cause. I have seen firmware updates for other Netgear routers mentioned in other threads in the community and am wondering if there is going to be an update for the R6300v2? I did just check the firmware today to see if I needed an update and I was updated to V1.0.4.18_10.0.84, but that must not have done anything for the SMB issue as I am still unable to access the drive via the network. Anyone else have this issue and have a solution? This has been a known issue for many months now so I would have expeected the latest firmware would have the fix, but since it doesn't and if there is nothing coming soon, then I may need to dump Netgear and buy another router that stays secure and up to date.SolvedR6300v2 - firmware update + serial number problem
I have an R6300v2 that my ISP provided ~ May 2017. After recent news of security problems I decided to check it's firmware version an was surprised to find it quite old--V1.0.0.6_10.0.3CP according to the web interface. If I do a check for new version in the interface I get "no new firmware version available". However, if I go to the support web site and look I find R6300v2-V1.0.4.18_10.0.84.chk and R6300v2-V1.0.4.20_10.0.85_beta.chk both available. I downloaded and unzipped 1.0.4.18 and tried to manually update it but was told that the firmware was incorrect and I should get the correct version. Is the existing firmware so old I need to do incremental updates? To top it off, I tried to register the device under my account, and when I input the serial number it gets identified as a WN3100RPv2! Something definitely seems messed up with this device! Thanks.SolvedR6300v2 and Facebook Wi-Fi
Dear community, I just have bought Netgear R6300v2 to use it in my bar with Facebook Wi-Fi function. The latest available firmware V1.0.4.6_10.0.76 is installed, Guest access is enabled, but every time I click "configure" in Facebook Wi-Fi page, browser takes me to erroneous page: https://www.facebook.com/wifiauth/config?gw_id= After that Netgear Genie becomes irresponsive and only reboot helps to get again into Administration panel. Perhaps somebody can hlep me? I suspect that Facebook has changed the page url for this kind of configuration. What is the right Facebook page link to configure such things? Perhaps it may help. Router is phisically located in Latvia.Serial Number: 44015177012F1Solved9.6KViews0likes62CommentsR6300v2 Router not connecting to modem.
Recieved the R6300v2 Router 8/2015 and has worked fine. For some reason came home to the router on but all functions were off, no lights, nothing. Got it back on and it will not connect to the modem. The Ethernet cable is connected to both. Turned it off and on, unplugged everything and rebooted the router. Still not connected. Should I do a factory reset? Call my internet provider? Why is it suddenly not reading the Ethernet cable?SolvedTrying to disable WPS (bringing the topic to the top of lists again)
So - I've had my R6300v2 for a day. I've fiddled with most settings and I'm happy that for most things it'll do what I need. ALL EXCEPT WPS! A week ago I ordered a D-Link which shocked me when I found the WPS couldn't be turned off AND the unalterable PIN was printed on the base. Sent it back. Very odd as I have a little DIR-615 which CAN turn WPS on/off and alter the PIN all from the web interface. I looked at NetGear models, read through User Guides and went for the R6300. I definitely got the impression that you could turn WPS on or off. I've tried a whole bunch of variations but WPS stays on regardless ... ON THE TWO MAIN SSIDs. Quite interesting to note that WPS does not appear on the Guest SSIDs when activated. For a moment I thought I had the answer to my problem - use the Guests and disable the main ones. Alas - as you are probably already thinking - turning the main SSID off disables that WiFi frequency entirely. So, I'm left wondering WHY has this feature been omitted? And why is there no official response to at least one of the previous WPS threads on here? In fact, if you search, you'll find one respondent even says they were treated poorly by telephone support when they contacted them. I refuse to believe that a feature available in older hardware is now impossible to implement. The underlying silicon almost certainly has been developed from older designs and they are unlikely to have removed any features. So, come on NetGear - one (or more) of your bright developers needs to say, "You know, there are a lot of articles discussing the problems and insecurities of WPS, as a Google search of the last month shows. Perhaps we should give our customers the ability to turn it off if they want. No-one will moan if we give them more features."Solved
