R6400 cannot update firmware

Received an email that said there is a new firmware.  I have done this in the past and it has always worked.  I see the firmware upgrade is a new number, 1.0.1.44.  I have 1.0.1.42.   However, when I check for firmware updates on nighthawk, it says no new firmware available.  And when I check on my pc using Netgear genie, I get the same response.  When I go to the Netgear webpage it says it is available.  I download it on my computer trying it on chrome and ie and I get "

Checking JavaScript Support

To provide an enhanced user interface, this Router uses JavaScript extensively.

If this page is not quickly replaced, your Browser does NOT support JavaScript.

Please enable JavaScript in your Browser, or use a different Browser."

I have JavaScript enabled on chrome and I also added http://www.routerlogin.net./ for good measure and no luck

You don't need to persuade me, you need to persuade your router
and/or web browser.  The router web site, no doubt, uses JavaScript.

       Still wondering.

A frequent question these days, as a casual look at these forums will
    show.

       What, exactly, are you downloading?

       "trying" _what_, exactly?

Is your problem downloading the firmware kit
("R6400-V1.0.1.44_1.0.31.zip"?), or trying to load the extracted ".chk"
file into the router, or what?

Have you tried a different computer or browser (or disabling some
    over-eager anti-virus program, ...)?

I was following the instructions below.

       R6400-V1.0.1.44_1.0.31.chk is on my desktop.

However, when I enter http://www.routerlogin.net into chrome or ie, it says that the page will not load because I do not have javascript allowed. But I do.

My bigger concern is why does nighthawk and netgear genie say that there are no updates for my router when there is one?

      To update the router’s firmware:

      1. Write down all the settings which you changed from the default values, since you may need to re-enter them manually.
      2. Using the Download Link below, download and extract the new firmware to a convenient place such as your desktop. The filename after extracting is R6400-V1.0.1.44_1.0.31.chk

        Download Link:http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/R6400/R6400-V1.0.1.44_1.0.31.zip

      3. To log in to the router, launch a web browser and enter http://www.routerlogin.net.
      4. Enter the router user name and password. The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.The BASIC Home screen displays.
      5. Select ADVANCED > Administration > Router Upgrade. The Router Update screen displays.
      6. Click the Browse button and find the file you just downloaded.
      7. Click the Upload button.
Do not interrupt the update while the router does this step.
