R6400 WiFi not working

I purchased this Motorola Router on 11/24/16.  No longer connecting to the WiFi.  It's been a nightmare!  First my ISP said it was the modem.  Replaced that, still no WiFi.  Then they said it was the cables to the house, replaced ALL of those.  No WiFi.  Brought in my computer guy, who installed this router a month ago, and now he says it's the router.  I'm trying to get an RMA to return the router to Netgear and get a replacement.  Why is it so hard to get an RMA number to return a defective unit to get a replacement?  I called & he wants me to do some tests with it but I have such a hard time understanding him !!

  • Hi Scolb64,

    1. Please make sure you are able to go online when connected straight to the modem.

    2. Please make sure you have gone through the setup procedure after resetting the router to the factory defaults.

    3. Make sure that the 2.4GHz and 5GHz LED's are lit on the router. If not, press the WiFi on/off button on the router for 2 seconds.

    4. Make sure that your devices are able to detect and connect to the router's wireless network

  • Dear Netgear, I've just updated the firmware for my netgear 6400 router and the wifi has all but shut down. The internet won't even load at this time. Please help. I restored the router to factory settings and it appears to still show the updated firmware number. Steve
