Re: R5120 and WAN port
You're correct in that the R6120 will be the bottleneck in the system as it won't perform any faster than the 100mbps.
You'll want to upgrade to a gigabit device.
With 600mbps, I'd look at a device more than a base level gigabit one as well. 600mbps is a pretty fast service.
Are you thinking just a single router solution? An AX router, a mesh solution?
What exactly are you thinking?

Upping my home service to 600mbps. WAN port on 6120 is rated 10/100. I would not think a gig output port on new modem will connect to 10/100 as expected.. Would a new modem/wi-fi router be better choice? Current modem will not support beyond 300mbps, so upgraded modem is the likelihood. Looking at options for a combo if the 6120 will not give the increased speed. ISP is sending a modem on a 12 month free plan, but I do not intend to pay monthly fee after that, hence purchase. Will certainly test with the supplied modem when received, but willing to invest in new hardware if that's the best option.

you need a new modem *and* a new router. Some people go for a gateway (modem+router in one) but I prefer to keep things separate. If you go for a modem-only and a router, check with the ISP which modem models they support

Motorola MG8702 is approved by ISP, and has router. All should support my 600MBPS. Old modem is Motorola, which has been 100% rliable, so no brand complaints.
- DonW0572TutorSo let me ask the team this, too. I am now looking at new, separate units. A Motorola modem that supports the ISP and speed, and the NetgearR6700 router, which should suit my needs.
If I run a cfg backup from 6120, can I load the settings on new router, or will I need to manually configure the new router? I have printouts of my configs, and should be able to recreate my settings. Thx.Manually install it. They use different hardware and it can cause issues/brick your device.
