Revert Firmware on a Mac

As part of my attempts to fix my external drive disconnecting issue, I'm trying to revert my firmware upgrade as suggested in several posts. However, I've got a Mac and it looks like the .chk files that are available as old versions are a Windows-only thing. How do I do this?

What led you to that conclusion?  Those files are interpreted by your
(unspecified) router, not anything on your computer OS.  All you should
need to load one into a router is a web browser.  Perhaps: ADVANCED >
Administration > Firmware Update : Locate and select the upgrade file on
    your hard disk.:

If you don't already have it, then visit http://netgear.com/support ,
put in your model number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User
    Manual.  Look for "firmware".

Thank you! I had gotten so far as to find the older firmware downloads, and there are no instructions there, and I'm not sure why I didn't then go back to the manual. I'll try this when I get home.

The "Release Notes" file included in the kit also normally includes a
"To Install" section, which offers a quick how-to.
