Security concerns--access to router info?

Router model not found on the list: AC 1750

I found a neighbor wandering around seemingly trying to pick up on anyone's unsecured wifi in our apartment complex.

I logged into my router to check my settings, but what's to keep someone from standing outside my apartment and logging into that router address to see my settings and password?  Do they have access to that, or do they have to be logged in using my router password to begin with?  (which they don't have.)
I changed the name of my router to something that hopefully will scare them off.

  • first they need to be connected to the wifi which if you properly password protected, they shouldn't be able to.

(If they are good enough to crack the password, you probably wouldn't be the intended victim)

Then they would need to know/guess/hack the password to log in.

So just make sure to setup a decent wifi password and then a decent login password to the router and you should be fairly safe.

Probably because that is not a router.

AC1750 is not a reliable guide to model number. Many devices come with an AC tag, but it is essentially a label that Netgear, and other brands, attach to hardware to describe wifi speeds.

Look at the label on the device for the model number.
