Slow ethernet and wifi speeds over sat

I have the xfinity gigabit speed plan, but from satellite in my room i am only receiving about 200mbps on wifi AND ethernet.

Using the Arris t25 modem, my room is about 35 feet from the router. (router is downstairs left side, room is upstairs right side)

  • So thats the speed you're getting from the satellite.

What speeds do you get from the router? that's the key.

Satellites speeds are going to be less because its transmitted over the wireless backhaul. And the RBK20 series uses the 866mbps link speed backhaul. of that 2 things.

    1. link speed is not the same as actual speed.

    2. distance/obstruction is going to drop the speeds from optimal as well.

xfinity test: my mac says 600mbps on wifi right next to my router, my phone says 200mbps on wifi next to my router

google test: my mac says 256mbps on wifi next to my router, my phone says 150mbps on wifi next to my router

orbi app: 789mbps (from modem i assume)

i have the orbi connected to the arris t25 modem using a cat 5e cable, and i have a cat 8 cable i can switch to.

the orbi is connected to the wall and the modem is connected to a power strip

200mbps over wifi isn't an unexpected result. the Orbi supports 866mbps link rate (again, not throughput) for both the backhaul and the fronthaul. And usually wifi speeds are device limited. meaning the devices is the bottleneck.

did you test hardwired speeds on the modem ,router, and then satellites?
