Slow speed on AC1750 2.4 GHZ

I have 100 Mbps service from Xfinity.  I have started to notice that my speeds (using Ookla) are in the 10 Mbps range on the 2.4 GHz band and 100+ on the 5 GHz band.  I see consistent results on both my laptop and my phone sitting side by side.  Ethernet connection to my desktop is 100+.  My firmware is up to date.  Is my router failing?  I am using a Motorola SURFboard Modem 400 Series SB6141.

  • You might be able to get better speeds. 2.4ghz is a much slower network than 5ghz but it broadcasts further and through more materials.
To start off with, try changing what channels you're on for the 2.4ghz. try 1-6-11. See which one works better.

    i'd also try several devices.

      Hi,

I tried all three channels with similar results, all three in the 40+ mps range which is much better.  Will monitor now for awhile to see it it continues.  Thanks for the help.

40mbps is about what you can expect out of 2.4ghz. Like I said, its not a high performing band but has more range/penetration power.
