Smart Connect using EX6100v2 extender with non-Netgear Router from Comcast?

My EX6100v2 extender is up to date with the latest firmware version.  I've configured it to use "one wifi name" (the setting causes the extender to use the same SSID name for each band as the SSID used by the router, and not adding an "_EXT" suffix.  I've got the router configured to use a different SSID for the 2.4 and for the 5 GHz bands.  All the web articles and posts I've found addressing Smart Connect assume the use of a Netgear router, either with or without a Netgear extender.  However, I'm using a Comcast  "Xfinity" Arris TG4482A router.  Is Smart Connect active on the extender compatible with a non-Netgear router and am I likely to either improve or degrade wifi performance in rooms where the router's signal is weak and I depend on the extender's signal for functional wifi reception?  I'd rather not waste time experimenting if I can learn ahead of time that it would be a bad idea to activate Smart Connect on the extender.

  • smart connect *should* work with the arris.

In terms of performance, sadly that is one that you have to test and see how well certain locations/positions works. I usually tell people to test multiple spots before settling on one as objects in walls (hvac, plumbing, etc) can cause wireless blockage.
