It's possible that it's because it's old.
Try to bypass to further isolate this problem.
If your connection is stable with your modem then definitely it's the router.
You can try to reflash the firmware then hard reset after.
If you get the same result, it's time to get a new one.

No problems with the desktop running directly on the modum. Resetting the router every now and then helps but the problem always returns. I'm too lazy to reflash my router so I guess ill be getting a new one. Thank you for the information.
