VPN passthrough on Netgear R6400 (AC1750)

Hi all,

At the moment I'm having trouble setting up vpn passthrough on my new Netgear R6400 with the latest firmware.

When setting up the port forwarding for the L2TP vpn solution (udp ports 1723, 500 and 4500) to my Synology NAS, which did work with my old Cisco router, I'm unable to connect from outside the network. When connected to the wireless lan inside the network, I am able to connect to the vpn server on my Synology. I also enabled the ping option for WAN on my Netgear R6400, but this neighter solved my problem.

The OpenVPN option on the Netgear is not supporting mobile devices yet, so this solution is no option...

Is there anyone having a solution which might solve my problem?

  • Hi Merijn,

    1. Have you tried forwarding port 1701? You can check the link below.

    2. Have you tried setting DMZ for the NAS for isolation purposes? We also recommend doing address reservation for the NAS to have its IP consistent.

    3. Have you tried other firmware versions?

    Regards,

      Hi Dexter,

I added port 1701, but without any luck. I also found the manual for troubleshooting vpn passthrough, but unfortunately after following all tips on this page, the problem still exists.

I will try to setup vps passthrough with the older firmware, hopefully this will fix my issue. I'll let you know...
