Weird Names In Attached Devices - WNR2000v2
I’m having a hard time trying to figure out what’s happening when I display a list of attached devices on my network.
Most disturbing is a list of “garbage” name devices. These appear only when my iPad (6th gen., iPadOS 17.1.2 ) is turned on. When the iPad is on, it takes only 1 or 2 clicks of the Refresh button for the the garbage devices to appear. On the next click, they may be gone.
These garbage devices always appear with IP and MAC addresses. For some other known devices, sometimes they appear with only a MAC address; the IP address and Name columns are populated only with a hyphen.
Firmware Version V1.2.0.12_36.0.60NA
I don’t know if this matters, but IPv6 is set to Disabled. Other options for this setting are
Any thoughts or suggestions you have, especially on the “garbage” named devices, will be greatly appreciated.

As microchip8 says:
You're using ancient technology. Time to upgrade to current standards?Ancient = 2009.
A lot has changed since then.
You have 100 Mbps LAN (today's technology is typically 1000 Mbps with some at 2500 Mbps) and no 5 GHz wifi. let alone 6 GHz.

Thanks for the wake up call! Our internet needs are modest, and I haven't had any problems other than this recent display of device names, so I hadn't realized so much has changed. Reading up on WiFi 6/7, DOCSIS 3.1/4.0, WPA3, etc. now. Thanks again!

Maybe, but if you are paying for anything near 100 Mbps for your Internet speed, you may be amazed at the improvement.
Even with slower Internet the laptop and phone would probably benefit from 5 GHz wifi.

DOCSIS is a modem thing.
You may not need to change anything on that front. The technology there changes less often and less dramatically.
The only problem could be if it has a LAN connection to the router that is also slow.
What modem do you have?
