WNDR4500 no admin access

Dear all,

Tried today to upgrade the firmware of my WNDR4500, but failed hopelessly.

- first get no access to router admin function through Genie (OSX app)

- restored factory setting on router; still no access to admin

- downloadd Genie app on IOS; also no luck

Now I have ran out of ideas.

Bright ideas, anybody?

Cheers,

Martin

That's right.  names like "routerlogin.net" work only for the router
which acts as a DNS server.  A wireless access point is never a DNS
    server.

You should be able to talk to the WAP at its LAN IP address, if you
know that address.  If you specified a static address when you selected
WAP mode, then you (should) know it.  If you specified "Get dynamically
from existing router", then you'd need to look for the router-as-WAP in
some kind of "Attached Devices" or "DHCP Clients" report from the main
    router.

After resetting the factory settings a number of times, access to the router was possible via the IP address and the default userID/password.

The complication in this case seemed to be that my router is in AP mode. This probably inhibits the use of the Genie app and possibly access through routerlogin.net.

The router is now in "routing mode". Moving back to AP mode and see what happens to Genie access.

In AP mode routerlogin.net does not work.

        Hi Antinode,

        Thanks for your reply.

I have set my WNDR4500 AP at fixed IP and can access the the AP on its webpage.

I have given it an IP-address outside the DHCP range of my main DSL modem/router.

I still cannout access the WNDR4500 from the OSX Genie app, but assume that is also because the WNDR4500 does not publices itself on the LAN.

        Problem solved.

        Cheers,

        Martin
