WNR2000v4 firmware update fail
wireless stopped working and was unable to connect to the internet anymore. after getting it all disconnected found that the ethernet controller on the computer had been disabled. easy enough to fix that.
I connected the router over ethernet to another known good computer and was able to log into the computer, found that the wireless had been disabled as well. I was not able to re-enable the wireless. found that the firmware was out of date (1.0.0.40), downloaded latest available(1.0.0.66) and attempted to upgrade. it starts and after a second or two the upgrade fails. I completed a factory reset on the router and that seemed to fix the wireless problem, but still unable to upgrade the firmware. searching through the forums here I found an article about a fix tool that runs a script. folling the steps to the letter resulted in nothing happening(no output to the router after running the script in the client program).
any further suggestions how I can get this upgraded? definitely prefer to not have an outdated router on the internets for security concerns.
thank you for any help ye can offer
Try the more severe reset:
- Press reset for 30 seconds
- Keep pressing reset while removing power
- Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power
Alternatively, if that doesn't work, try this:

I had actually tried the 30-30-30 after posting and it didn't seem to work(didn't even reset the existing settings already on the router)
However the second tool worked on the first try. got it set up again and good to go.
Thank you very much for your excellent directions!
