WNR2000v5 R2 N300 Firmware Upgrade Download Not Compatible
Product is the WNR2000v5 R2 (serial number 4KX1665H060EF) with Firmware Version V1.0.0.38 and I want to patch security vulnerabilities.
When attempting to upgrade to V1.0.0.80, I get error: "This firmware file is incorrect! Please get the firmware file again and make sure it is the correct firmware for this product."
Netgear support download site (https://www.netgear.com/support/product/wnr2000v5#download) does not contain any mention of "R2". Download available for WNR2000v5 is V1.0.0.80 and support site previous versions does not list V1.0.0.38 as available (listing skips from .34 to .42).
What is the most up-to-date firmware for WNR2000v5 R2?

LAN/WAN connection at 100 Mbps (1000 Mbps has been the standard since around 2015) and no 5 GHz wifi (also standard for a decade ir so).

Okay, just wondering if Negear employees lurk here and know where the software updates are for a product that plainly is labeled "WNR2000v5 R2" yet is MIA from the support website, even though an "R1" has newer firmware for downloading.
I didn't post the question to be lectured on the age of the equipment. I understand it is no longer sold or supported, thus resorting to helpful suggestions by community members. The fact of the matter is I have a specific use-case for no more than 1Mbps (hardly!) 802.11b using WEP in an obscure location, attached as an AP to a real home network. Old stuff is not necessarily bad stuff. In fact, newer routers won't do the job because then I'd have to lower the security of the entire house. An old router is just fine, thank you very much! I'm helping save the planet, reusing perfectly functional equipment. And yes, I know WEP is insecure and I know 1Mbps is slow, but that's not your concern is it?
I couldn't find that firmware version for any of the WNR2000's. makes me wonder if it was one of those versions sold directly to an ISP. I wouldn't be surprised if it was as they tend to have some designation after the model number. Usually if you look in the advanced setting status page, you see some additional firmware details.
But regardless, that is a very low performing router. Unless you're on old DSL (as newer will be faster than it can handle), its bottlenecking your network and should be upgraded.
