WNR2200 DHCP Options
Hi I have a WNR2200 wireless router which I am using as an access point.
There seems to be an issue after a few hours the DNS stops working, however if I use the DNS of our main router (WAN) that works fine.
Is there any way to change this in the DHCP options?
It's ok I thought what would be the case initially. I'll figure something out 🙂

What actually happens when "the DNS stops working"?
The WNR2200 dates from 2010. According to Netgear's manual for this device, not always the most reliable source of information, the LAN and WAN ports support only 10BASE-T or 100BASE-TX. That makes it slower than many newer internet services and most modern network hardware.
It does not support 5 GHz wifi.

It is connected to another router for internet access. While I am using it as an access point it still in router mode.
When the issue occurs it just seems that the Netgear cannot resolve any DNS requests, but pinging IP addresses work fine, also does manually changing the DNS on the client.
I also updated to the latest firmware 1.0.1.102 but this didn't make any difference

What does that mean? The WNR2200 is in router mode? It can't be a router and access point at the same time.
With two routers you can run into problems.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

I see no indication on the manual for the WNR2200 that it has a built-in AP mode. Maybe it is too old. This could be why you see those problems. There may be a way to get around that.
