Burned out Ethernet Port
My modem/router has 4 ports on the back. One port is dead. I need to plug 4 devices into the router. Two of the devices are security cameras that will not be used online very often and not at the same time. Can I install an 2 -1 adapter that will allow two devices to be connected into one port? How bad will this hurt the performance of the cameras if not used at the same time?
I wouldn't use an "adapter".
I'd buy a simple gigabit switch.
A 5-8 port one is usually around $20-30

I found this splitter but I think you are correct about needing a switch. This only allows one input at a time. The cameras would both be trying to "input" at the same time.
