C7100v modem/router turn wifi back on

Hi,

I have disabled the wifi on my c7100v modem router.  If I want to enable the router wifi how do I do this?  There is no physical button to turn the wifi back on.  Because there is no wifi I cannot access the router setup page to enable it.  I connected to the modem via ethernet to try to access the setup page to no avail.  Is there a procedure to turn the wifi back on?

  • Hi,

    >As described in the User Manual under "Set Up the Modem Router in
    >Bridge Mode"? That does a little more than "disabled the wifi".

    Yup. It sure does.

    >As it also says in the User Manual under "Set Up the Modem Router in
    Bridge Mode":

    >    Note: When your modem router is in bridge mode, use
http://192.168.100.1 to log in to your modem router.

Yes, I read other threads in the community about using http:// to log into the modem/router when in bridge mode.  I will give this a try.

Makes sense, I will unplug the ethernet cable (from my mesh router) on the modem router and plug in my laptop.

Defintely will be my last resort!

    I'll keep you posted,

    Thanks!

       How, exactly?

    > [...] Because there is no wifi I cannot access the router setup page

Use a computer with a wired connection?

"try" _how_, exactly?  "try" or "to no avail" is not a useful problem
description.  It does not say what you did.  It does not say what
happened when you did it.  As usual, showing actual actions (commands)
with their actual results (error messages, LED indicators, ...) can be
more helpful than vague descriptions or interpretations.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.  Look for
    "Troubleshooting" and "Factory Settings".

      Hi,

Thanks for your prompt response.  Here are the answers to your questions:

      How exactly?

Here are the steps I followed...

      • Access the router interface (routerlogin.com, routerlogin.net, 192.168.0.1).
      • Enter the modem router user name and password.

The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and
        password are case-sensitive.

        The BASIC Home screen displays.

      • Proceed to Advance tab and click on Administration then Router Mode.

In Router Mode there was a check box with "yes" or "no" I selected "No"

NOTE: If you set it it "NO", this setting the modem router works as a bridge and obtains IP addresses from the Internet provider

Use a computer with a wired connection?

I connected my laptop to the modem with an ethernet cable and tried to access the internet and got a message saying I could not because my IP address was not recognized.  My wifi mesh router was connected as well so I am wondering if I should disconnect it and retry accessing my modem with my laptop?

As described in the User Manual under "Set Up the Modem Router in
Bridge Mode"?  That does a little more than "disabled the wifi".

As it also says in the User Manual under "Set Up the Modem Router in
        Bridge Mode":

Note: When your modem router is in bridge mode, use
http://192.168.100.1 to log in to your modem router.

        > I connected my laptop [...]

Not a very detailed description of that device.  Windows?  Mac?
        Other?

        > [...] to the modem with an ethernet cable [...]

And configured its Ethernet interface how, exactly?

        > [...] got a message saying I could not because my IP address was not
        > recognized. [...]

As usual, the actual message text might be more helpful than your
interpretation of the actual message text.

        > [...] My wifi mesh router [...]

Not a very detailed description of that device.

        > [...] was connected as well [...]

To a LAN Ethernet port on the C7100V?  I'd guess that that was the
one device which got the one valid IP address from your ISP (leaving
none for your (unspecified) "my laptop").

        > [...] so I am wondering if I should disconnect it and retry accessing
        > my modem with my laptop?

           Yup.

With the C7100V in modem-only ("bridge") mode, only one client device
should be connected to its LAN ports.  If that one device were your
(unspecified) "my laptop", then it might get a valid IP configuration
from your ISP, and, if you then specified the suggested IP address
("192.168.100.1") in your web-browser URL, then you might reach the
        C7100V management web site.

In the worst case, you might need to configure the Ethernet interface
on your (unspecified) "my laptop") with a static address like
        "192.168.100.X" (1 < X < 255).

Or you could take what might be the easy way out, and do the settings
        reset (see "Factory Settings").
