CAN ANYBODY TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NIGHTHAWK MK-83 AND MK-63 BESIDES ABOUT $250 IN COST

I saw an advertisement for Netgear's Tri-band AX3600 3-Pack (MK83) for $499.00, and then saw Amazon had the AX1800 (MK63S) for $299. I read that the MK83 covers up to 6,750 square feet, and the older model MK63S covers 4,500. Our home is about 2,500 square feet. It would seem that we would do just fine with the older model, but is there any other reason we should pay the extra $200 and get the newer model?

  • the MK83 system is a triband system with a dedicated wireless backhaul between router and satellites.

that dedicated backhaul allows all the satellites to have much faster speeds and lower latency than they would otherwise.

with the dual band mesh system, the satellites have to use the same chip to go router--->satellite and then satellite---->devices. and the chip can't do both at once. So its speed gets reduced significantly. The tribands are the fix for the lowered speeds because of that dedicated backhaul.

    • Thanks for letting me know. Sounds like the extra $200 is worth it when comparing these two systems  It begs another question for me: My current router is a tri-band - the Nighthawk X6 AC3000, Model R7900. Am going to gain $500 in performance by upgrading to the MK-83?

That's not something I can say. If you're needing better coverage around the home, maybe.

But everyone has to choose whether $500 is worth it on their own
