recently upgraded my firmware to v1.0.4.122; now can't get into router settings on Genie: it says: Login failed. The router response timed out. How to fix?

Try using the NightHawk App on a mobile device or set up the router using PC and web browser.
I beleive the Genie app is no longer supported...

Which genie? This could be one of several things, the browser interface, a Windows or Mac program for a PC, or a mobile Android/iThing app. Netgear labels them all as genies. Which are you using?

That is not firmware for the R6700V1, the only version that supports the "portable" genie.
Netgear Genie on PC, version 2.4.62. BTW, I used this Netgear Genie to upgrade to the .122 version of firmware.

OK. Not the mobile app. (Forget about talk of the NightHawk App, although it might be worth trying to test the local network.) Not something that the firmware will have wiped out. So it should still work.
Any more detailed error messages? This doesn't tell us much:
Login failed. The router response timed out.Have you rebooted the router since the update?
Can you still get into the thing with the browser graphical user interface (GUI)? That will be a more reliable test of the local network.
You haven't provided much information about the rest of your network. It might help to tell people what modem, if there is one, sits in front of the router.
I assume that otherwise the router is behaving itself.
