Expanding Wireless Access by Adding Another AP

Please forgive me if this has already been covered in another post. I couldn't find anything myself, and I looked around but get confused by the terminology.

What I want to do is use my existing R7000|AC1900 as my downstairs WAP and add another R6700|AC1750 upstairs using the same SSID to basically expand my network coverage. There is a dead spot upstaris where tablets are frequently dropping wirless connection.

So am I simply adding the R6700|AC1750 as an additional AP or is there more to this?

Can you wire the R6700 to the R7000? (That's the best option.) If so, then you can set up the R6700 in AP mode.

If you want the R6700 and the R7000 to establish a wifi connection, then you need to put the R6700 into "bridge mode".

    Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

Check the sections in the manual on Set Up the Router in Bridge Mode and Use the Router as a Wireless Access Point.

If you do run one of them as an AP (hardwired in) and use the same SSID, just keep in mind that they'll tend to be "sticky". meaning devices won't roam like a actual mesh system using the same ssid. Devices will tend to stay connected until the signal drops or is close to unusable.
