Factory Reset AC 1750 Model R6700V2 Can't Seem to Factory Reset
Hi Power Users and knowing Nighthawk WIFI users.
I have a AC1750 Smart WIFI Router, Model R6700v2. I use it as stand alone, and want to use it as an access point to extend range within house.
I am trying to Reset it to Factory defaults. I have tried to use the "Reset Button" within the hole at the back of the router. I have held it in for up to 20 seconds, 7 to 10 times using a toothpick, at the power on, and held it in as I turned on power.
I took the router out of service because I wanted to change settings for access point use. Now it will just not let me login.
It will go to just flashing Orange, or Solid Orange, or after several days of Power Off, go back to its full WHITE LIGHT state of Power on / 2.5 & 5.0 wifi / flashing on with the number of connected cable(s) to it / Signal light located 2nd from the right ((.)) / and funny looking <.> signal on the far right on the front of the router. The router seems to working in the state. I can see the original Netgear 66 and Netgear 66 5.hz frequencies showing as wifi signals when I right click on the Round World globe symbol at the bottom of my Win10 pc. However my original passwords will not let me connect.
I wrote down all my passwords including those for the 2.4 and 5.0 bands. For a short time they worked and I could connect to any or both of the bands. The last time I tried, the router says in effect the password is invalid.
I have tried to connect to the router as a stand alone, NOT connected to the internet, hard wired between my laptop and router, through firefox browser to make changes.
I tried to install the Netgear app hoping that would let me factory reset and upgrade firmware if any new present. Netgear app install process doesn't seem to want to work. I'll keep trying to get that app. Router recovery with my original passwords keeps saying is denying access because the password security questions and password are not what is saved on the router. I'm stuck. I appreciate any help. Thank you! LEE

- microchip8MasterFactory reset wipes out all custom settings you have done, including passwords, and reverts them to defaults
Try with a browser to go to http://routerlogin.net or http://192.168.1.1 and use "admin" as user and "password" as pass to login. You can then set up AP mode and WiFi passwords- michaelkenwardGuru - Experienced User

I don't understand that bit, it is a bit long, making it hard to work out the sequence.
After you turn on the router, the power LED will go through a test cycle before, after a minute or two, it goes solid white.
If that doesn't happen, then the firmware on your router may be corrupt.
Manuals are always a good place to start.
Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Check the section in the manual Troubleshoot With the LEDs.
You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
