Firmware update. Please Help

My R7800 has firmware version 1.0.0.40.  I'm running Windows 7 x64 SP1 on the machine doing the upgrade.  Netgear Genie notified me there was a new version available.  The notice said to "click here" to install it.  I clicked "there" and nothing happened.

Next, I downloaded the zip file from the Netgear site and followed the instructions.  After selecting the img file and choosing "upload", nothing happened.  After that, I unplugged the router to reset it and tried again.  This time I saw a progress indicator after selecting "upload" but the power light never turned amber.  I rebooted.  The router firmware was and still is listed as v1.0.0.40.  Tried again.  No change.

Please advise!

  • Thank you for suggesting some solutions.  I did eventually get the firmware to install.  Although I followed the instructions not to open or change any windows in my browser, I discovered this was insufficient.  What worked was closing both browsers I was using, reopening one with only the routerlogin page tab open and proceeding from there.  I'm guessing the various open tabs were interfering somehow with the update process.

    Hi echo14612,

Please try using a different web browser in updating the firmware. Make sure as well to use a wired computer in manually updating the firmware.
