Gaming Setup ?

Hi all,

I bought the AC2300, R7000P during the pandemic and shortage of routers in our area 8 months ago ditching our rental Cox setup. I have since added an Arris SB6190 and last week swaped it out for an Arris SB8200. Thinking my issues were related to the Modem which is standalone if that is not clear.

My underlying issue is LAG/LATENCY while playing "COD WARZONE". My gaming experience lives in Packet Loss "3 stacked yellow & orange boxes on the left center of the screen" Most noteable is during my inptus. I use a wireless controller and also have tried wired with the same results.

Internet speeds when tested hardline to modem are between 180+ mbps down and 10.5 mbps up, Ping between 6-8.

XBOX one X tests 165 mbps down and 10.5 up and latency under 40. I do not use WIFI, only Hardline with CAT 6 cables into my AC2300 router. My NAT TYPE is OPEN on XBOX and COD.

We do have no more than 3-4 devices on WIFI at all time. If I shut all of them off through the app the problem is still there.

Some experimenting I have done to test my problems are trying to run Xbox direct to the modem and still having packet loss. Both Modems are giving me the same results by the way so upgrading to the SB8200 seems like a waste and I may return it.

I have tried using differnet DNS settings in Router setup and also on the XBOX Network settings. Using Automatic has proven to give me the best results.

I have recently uninstalled COD and installed it again but the problem is still there.

I tried to make adjustments with the router settings to see what would happen. I tried to enable Qos and found it did nothing to improve my situation if anything it made it worse.

I then tried Port Triggering and setup a port for this feature and configured it with the XBOX Menu. This seems to have helped as I'm seeing a little less packet loss and have felt the game play better than ever.

Upnp disabled was helping too but it takes me out of COD NAT TYPE from OPEN to MODERATE.

I have moved my equipment to different locations in our home and have had the same issue.

I have he default WAN settings setup in my router and not sure if I should adjust these.

Is there some setup others have used to sort out the LAG/LATENCY AND PACKET LOSS?

Can you share a setup to help me with my gaming experince?

Other friends of mine alll have little to no issues with packet loss.

If you're getting the same packet loss and latency issues with the device hardwired directly into the modem, what makes you suspect the router?

Not sure if its the Modem or simply could be COD servers. It is strange how many people claim not to experience the issue and some do. Many posts acrosss the web about LAG/LATENCY with this game.

I reached out to our internet service provider yesterday and had them up our speed to see if that would improve the gaming experience but I did not see any improvement.

I did find while looking at my Xbox that it had the wrong power cord and replaced it with the correct one. There was a debate on the power cord in the past about using the factory 7v 125w oem unit vs the 10v 125w.

Yesterday, I also reset the modem and settings on the router back to default and it shows OPEN NAT TYPE in XBOX Settings and COD Home Screen.

Any input from the forum on hard-wired setup to improve LAG or LATENCY?

      Cheers!

      Follow up.

I have since replaced my Nighthawk R7000P with an Asus AX5400 and was able to sort my issues for the most part.

Had Cox Tech come test our service and he found our modem was faulty along with our Nighthawk R7000P. Niether of the items were able to produce the speeds being passed through them.

I have replaced the modem with another Arris SB8200 and the above mentioned Asus router. Speeds and performance are now in spec for what we pay. My online gaming has improved as well.

My online gaming experience continues to suffer from packet loss and lag. This has had me going nuts. I replaced my modem and still having the same issues. This brings me to the router. Looks like the router is my problem. For some reason when it is hooked up it shows 1000/Full bandwith on WAN and LAN ports. The speeds I see range from 40-90 down /10 up. After a recent internet speed upgrade from 150 down/10up to 500 down/10 up we've never seen those speeds. I did a full factory reset yesterday and installed latest firmware and am still getting the slow internet speed. My Xbox is hardlined using CAT6A cables into R7000P LAN PORT 1. I've tried other LAN PORTS with no improvement.

Had a service tech stop by Friday and had them run tests and he claimed our new ARRIS SB8200 was faulty. I was able to return it and got a new one with the same results. The tech left a loaner Modem/Router combo and we had full speed 480 down/10.5 up no problems and the Xbox was seeing nothing less than 300 down/10.5 up. My Arris SB8200 conected to my R7000P hardlined to my Xbox never sees over 100 down/10up.

This has me thinking the router is not able to push the speeds I'm paying for. I've seen others on here in other posts claiming poor performance too. I've seen others post about going to old firmware to get the performance back but this doesn't make sense. On paper this router is amazing but it does not live up to the speeds or performance as advertised.

Thoughts or ideas on solution ?
